About the Role

As the Development Lead for Asia / Backend, you will define and drive the long-term backend architecture strategy, lead a team of architects and senior engineers, and ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of our platform. This is a senior leadership role requiring deep technical expertise and strong people management skills.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the long-term backend architecture strategy aligned with business goals.
• Oversee system design across multiple services, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
• Establish architectural standards, design patterns, and engineering best practices across the organization.
• Lead technical due diligence, risk assessment, and trade-off analysis for major engineering decisions.
• Drive platform modernization initiatives and technical debt reduction.
• Champion observability, performance engineering, and operational excellence.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of backend architects and senior engineers.
• Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning.
• Drive hiring and onboarding for the backend architecture team.
• Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
• Coordinate cross-team technical initiatives and resolve architectural conflicts.

Requirements

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience, including 3+ years in a lead or principal role.
• Proven track record designing and scaling distributed systems in production.
• Strong experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.
• Deep expertise in backend languages such as Java, Go, Python, Node.js, or similar.
• Extensive knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architecture, and API design.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern infrastructure practices.
• Strong understanding of database design, caching, messaging, and high-concurrency systems.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
