Effective hourly rate (with unpaid time off)
If you're a contractor or freelancer and your time off is unpaid, your real hourly rate is higher than the standard math suggests. Set how many weeks per year you actually take off.

How the salary-to-hourly math works
The standard formula divides annual salary by total working hours per year. With a 40 hour week and 52 weeks per year that's 2,080 hours. So $100,000 salary divided by 2,080 hours is about $48.08 per hour.
Going the other way, multiply hourly by hours per week, then by weeks per year. $30 per hour at 40 hours per week for 52 weeks is $62,400 a year.
This calculator does no tax math. It assumes you're paid for every working hour and reports the equivalent dollar figure across pay periods. For after-tax take-home you need a different tool. For the contractor parity question - "what 1099 hourly equals my W2 salary?" - use the Contractor Rate Calculator.
