The Role: Platform Engineer, Edge and Networking Squad

We are actively seeking a talented Platform Engineer to join our dedicated Edge and Networking squad. This critical team is responsible for all aspects of our network perimeter, managing our API gateway, routing, load balancing, DNS, and secure global traffic distribution. You will play a key role in designing, building, and operating robust, highly automated systems that ensure Supabase can scale reliably while maintaining exceptionally low latency and high availability across our worldwide infrastructure. Collaboration with other infrastructure and product teams will be essential to guarantee seamless integration, comprehensive observability, and optimal performance of our edge services.

What You’ll Be Responsible for

• Help build and maintain the core Supabase Cloud offering, ensuring its reliability and performance.
• Design and implement Supabase’s global edge router platform, optimizing for speed and resilience.
• Develop programmable, API-driven routing logic to dynamically steer customer traffic effectively.
• Work extensively with DNS, Web Application Firewalls (WAF), IP networking, TLS termination, CDN integrations, and global load balancing solutions.
• Implement advanced observability features, including relevant metric and log capturing, precise latency measurements, sophisticated traffic shaping, proactive routing health monitoring, and effective failure mitigation strategies.
• Optimize routing performance to minimize latency and significantly improve reliability across various cloud regions.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with diverse teams to seamlessly integrate networking solutions throughout the entire Supabase stack.
• Continuously improve our system architecture to reduce operational costs while expertly balancing security, reliability, and performance requirements.
• Design and implement robust CI/CD systems to accelerate deployments, incorporating proper change and release management processes.
• Actively participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and thorough post-incident reviews for all edge-related issues.
• Resolve escalated support issues, while simultaneously identifying and addressing systemic problems across the platform.

You Might Be a Fit If You Have

• At least 5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), DevOps, or Cloud Infrastructure roles.
• A minimum of 4+ years of experience building and operating high-scale networking or edge infrastructure.
• Strong practical experience with key networking protocols such as HTTP, TCP/IP, TLS certificate management, CDN internals, load balancing, and global routing mechanisms.
• Proficiency with various traffic proxies or routers, including tools like Envoy, NGINX, HAProxy, Traefik, or experience in building custom solutions.
• Demonstrated experience designing systems for high availability, effective failover, and real time observability.
• Strong software engineering skills, particularly with Go (Golang).
• Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills, especially within complex distributed systems environments.
• Knowledge of advanced networking concepts such as IPv6, BGP, Anycast, or other advanced routing protocols.
• Experience managing large scale deployments on major cloud platforms like AWS, GCP (Google Cloud), or Azure.
• Comfortable working with cloud networking primitives provided by AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar providers.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools; Pulumi is preferred, but Terraform or CDK experience is also acceptable.
• Experience participating in on-call rotations for large production systems.
