AWS Practice Lead, Open Source Databases at Percona
Job Description
AWS Practice Lead Role Overview
Percona is seeking a hands-on AWS Practice Lead to help customers maximize their use of open source databases within the AWS ecosystem, including services like EKS, Aurora, RDS, ElastiCache, and MSK. While the core focus is on database environments, this role provides critical architectural guidance for surrounding infrastructure that impacts database performance, cost, and reliability.
As a recognized thought leader, the Practice Lead will stay ahead of AWS platform developments, providing strategic advice and direct support for complex implementations and migrations. This role is dedicated to AWS expertise, with deep knowledge of the ecosystem.
Our Philosophy: Customer First Approach
This position is founded on the principle of meeting customers where they are, which for many means AWS. The Practice Lead should enthusiastically recommend AWS solutions when they are the natural and appropriate fit. However, if a fully managed AWS service isn't ideal for a customer's cost, portability, or technical needs, the Lead is expected to recommend a better alternative, even if it involves self-managed or Percona-supported open source solutions. The goal is to provide honest, technically grounded recommendations that prioritize the customer's best interest over Percona's specific offerings.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Advocacy: Champion Percona's expertise and software, ensuring the customer's outcome is always the top priority, regardless of the tools or platforms used.
- Existing Customer Growth: Focus on helping existing Percona customers running in or migrating to AWS environments. This includes performance tuning, cost optimization, and facilitating smooth transitions, ensuring Percona's support and services adapt to their evolving infrastructure.
- Product & Partnership Influence: Advise internal Percona teams to enhance software and services for AWS customers. Collaborate with the Cloud Partnership team on formal AWS relationships, while maintaining the technical credibility essential for the partnership.
- Business Growth: A results-oriented role, measured by the AWS Practice's revenue, profitability, contribution to Percona subscriptions (Support, Managed Services), partnership revenue, and overall customer satisfaction.
- Thought Leadership: Enhance Percona's visibility in the AWS and open source database space through content creation, professional networking, and speaking engagements at industry conferences like re:Invent.
- Service Design: Architect professional service offerings such as migration assessments, cost optimization reviews, and architecture audits, designed for high market impact and successful customer adoption.
- Sales & Marketing Enablement: Act as a "Super Expert" Solutions Architect during pre-sales cycles, collaborating with Marketing on technical campaigns and enabling the Sales team to secure deals with significant AWS components.
- Practice Building: As the business expands, take responsibility for hiring and mentoring a dedicated team to grow the AWS Practice.
