Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain client-side applications for a dynamic instant messaging platform, with a primary focus on Android development.
• Build essential messaging functionalities including real time chat, group chat, multimedia messaging, message synchronization, offline messaging, and push notifications.
• Contribute to client-side architecture design, ensuring a consistent and high-quality user experience across Android, iOS, and Web platforms.
• Utilize AI powered development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, and Claude to support cross-stack front end development, assisting in reading, debugging, and modifying iOS and Web codebases.
• Integrate RESTful APIs and real time communication protocols like WebSocket, MQTT, or gRPC.
• Manage local storage, implement offline first experiences, handle message state management, and ensure cross-platform synchronization logic.
• Optimize client performance, focusing on startup speed, memory usage, battery efficiency, network performance, and UI responsiveness.
• Collaborate closely with back end teams on API design, integration processes, and the investigation of production related issues.
• For Senior level engineers: Mentor junior engineers and play a key role in technical design decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Engineer level: 1-3+ years of professional experience; Senior Engineer level: 3-5+ years of experience.
• Solid production experience in Android development, proficient in Kotlin and/or Java.
• A strong understanding of the Android SDK, Jetpack components, asynchronous programming, and modern client-side architecture.
• Required: Demonstrated ability to effectively use AI powered development tools (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) for cross-stack front end development.
• Ability to read, comprehend, debug, and implement reasonable changes in iOS or Web codebases with the aid of AI tools.
• Familiarity with WebSocket, MQTT, gRPC, or similar real time communication protocols.
• Understanding of core messaging concepts, including message delivery, read status, synchronization, local persistence, offline support, and push notifications.
• Good understanding of client-side performance optimization, memory management, multi threading, and security best practices.
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing methodologies, and Agile processes.
• Strong debugging, problem solving, ownership, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in building IM products or communication platforms (e.g., WhatsApp, Telegram, WeChat, Discord, Slack, Messenger).
• iOS development experience (Swift, SwiftUI, Objective-C).
• Web front end experience (TypeScript, React, Vue, Next.js).
• Experience in cross-platform client or mobile full-stack development.
• Knowledge or experience with end-to-end encryption, message security, or cryptographic protocols.
• Experience with voice/video calling or Real Time Communication (RTC) technologies.
• Experience with large-scale distributed messaging infrastructure.
• Background in Fintech, payments, or Web3 applications.
• Contributions to open source projects or published applications on Google Play/App Store.
