About the Role

Millions of students have successfully learned chess using the kind and patient Dr. Wolf. What began as an independent passion project has evolved into a robust product with a dedicated user base, and there is immense potential for further development. This is a unique opportunity to independently grow a product with an established user base. You will be responsible for defining the product roadmap, shipping code, engaging with users, and making critical decisions that impact learners daily. You will leverage agentic AI coding tools as your primary method of development, acting as a genuine force multiplier that enables one person to achieve the output of a small team.

About You

You are someone who undertakes projects for enjoyment and possesses a strong desire to learn new technologies. You have a passion for games and teaching. You have prior experience creating applications or websites. You thrive in ambiguous environments and do not require detailed specifications to begin work. When faced with an issue, you resolve it. When an improvement is possible, you prototype it. Crucially, you genuinely love chess and are dedicated to teaching it. You empathize with the learning journey - the initial confusion, the moments of breakthrough, and how a clear explanation can demystify a seemingly impossible concept. This empathy is fundamental to the success of this product.

What you'll do

• Own the product end-to-end: Plan features, analyze user feedback and statistics, make prioritization decisions, and communicate directly with learners.
• Ship your own code: Develop features and resolve bugs for both iOS and Android applications, utilizing agentic AI coding tools as your primary development environment.
• Use AI as a creative and execution multiplier: Rapidly prototype ideas, explore new mechanics, automate routine tasks, and maintain continuous progress. The ideal candidate in this role will function effectively as a small team.
• Design what’s next: Employ data, user feedback, and your expert judgment to enhance Dr. Wolf's effectiveness as a learning experience.
• Stay close to users: Regularly engage with learners and teachers to understand their challenges, successes, and unmet needs.
• Run the business side: Ensure operational continuity, monitor key metrics, and guarantee healthy growth for both users and the business.

Preferred Skills

• Projects with real users: Demonstrated experience with an application, game, tool, or website you primarily built and launched to actual users. Personal or side projects are perfectly acceptable.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding tools: You have utilized these tools to develop tangible products, not merely for experimentation. You understand their strengths and limitations.
• A genuine connection to chess and chess education: You have learned the game, taught it, or deeply considered the challenges involved in learning it. You are passionate about helping individuals improve their chess skills.
• Comfort with ambiguity and independent ownership: You have a track record of making product or project decisions autonomously, without requiring constant direction, and you find this empowering rather than anxiety-inducing.
• Curiosity and follow-through: You consistently complete tasks. You learn through practical application and acquire new technical skills as required by the problem at hand.

About the Opportunity

This is a full-time opportunity. We operate as a 100% remote company. Working hours must include at least 4 hours of overlap with US East Coast business hours.
