Senior Backend Engineer at Applaudo

About You

Are you a seasoned software engineer seeking a challenging role where you can take significant ownership? Join Applaudo to architect and manage critical backend services within our extensive enterprise integration platform. This position involves designing, building, and maintaining robust event-driven, cloud-native solutions leveraging Microsoft Azure. Your expertise will be vital in unifying diverse business verticals into one cohesive, scalable integration layer.

Note: This role operates under a 6-month contractor model.

Key Competencies

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred, or possess equivalent professional experience.
• Demonstrate over 8 years of professional software development experience, with a strong history of delivering intricate backend solutions using the .NET ecosystem (C#, .NET 6/8).
• Solid, hands-on experience with Azure Service Bus and Azure Functions for developing event-driven, serverless architectures.
• Proficiency with API Management and observability/APM tools such as Application Insights, Datadog, or New Relic for effective monitoring and troubleshooting in distributed environments.
• Proven experience in designing, building, and maintaining robust, scalable RESTful APIs.
• Solid working knowledge of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles and enterprise integration patterns.
• Strong understanding of SOLID principles, design patterns, and unit/integration testing (TDD experience is a plus).
• Comfortable working within a shared-ownership architecture model, actively contributing to design decisions and technical strategy alongside senior peers, not just executing predefined designs.
• Comfortable integrating AI-assisted development tools (Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or similar) into your daily workflow.
• Excellent communication skills in English are required to work effectively with our US-based team and stakeholders, and to clearly translate complex technical work into business terms.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and take ownership of features within the core enterprise integration layer, from initial technical design through deployment and ongoing monitoring.
• Implement cutting-edge event-driven solutions utilizing Azure Service Bus and Azure Functions, ensuring alignment with the broader integration architecture.
• Collaborate closely with the Principal Architect, tech leads, and other developers to deliver consistent, scalable solutions across various business verticals.
• Take full ownership of assigned tasks, from planning stages through successful delivery, with minimal need for oversight.
• Communicate clearly and proactively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders regarding progress, blockers, and crucial technical decisions.
• Champion code quality, comprehensive testing, and CI/CD best practices; actively participate in code reviews to maintain high standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues within a distributed, cloud-based environment using Application Insights or equivalent APM tooling.
