Your Role:

As a Software Engineer in the Advisory Suite, your primary responsibility will be to build Alpaca's proprietary services for our users' advisory needs, ensuring high quality and performance in areas such as Block Trading, Portfolio Management, and IRA services. This is an exciting opportunity, akin to joining early-stage AWS or Heroku, where you will design and architect a foundational platform, wearing multiple hats within a small team.

You will write extensive code and make critical decisions to deliver the best customer experience. This role demands deep expertise in both frontend and backend development, databases, and distributed systems. You should also possess broad experience ranging from low-level CPU hardware optimization for high throughput to robust concurrency system design, abstract distributed system architecture for high availability, and object-oriented data modeling with a focus on long-term growth. Previous software engineering experience with trading or exchange systems (OMS, EMS, exchanges, market making, algorithmic trading, quant trading) is a must.

Who You Are (Must-Haves):

• Strong system design skills, including object-oriented data modeling, service-oriented architectures, and system abstraction.
• Experienced software engineer, with a senior level preferred.
• Proficiency in both low-level and high-level languages such such as C/C++, Go, Zig, Rust, Java, Scala, and Python.
• Expertise in low latency and high throughput optimization.
• Experience with messaging queues and message brokers.
• Analytical, data-oriented mindset and skills.
• Comprehensive knowledge of algorithms, distributed systems, scalability, high availability, databases, low latency systems, and concurrency control.
• Experience in developing and implementing Order Management Systems (OMS) and/or high load financial transactional systems.

Who You Might Be (Nice-to-Haves):

• Familiarity with FIX protocol.
• Experience with observability, tracing, continuous profiling, and benchmarking.
