The Team: Core Payments
You will be joining our Core Payments team, a crucial component of SafetyWing's mission. This team is responsible for managing all aspects of payment processing, billing, subscriptions, and maintaining the integrity of our financial data. We build and maintain the robust infrastructure that underpins all financial transactions, directly impacting our global operations and customer experience.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to significantly expand our payment capabilities on a global scale. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in designing and implementing systems that handle complex payment flows, integrate with a diverse array of payment providers, and ensure strict compliance with international financial regulations. Your work will directly support our growth, enabling seamless transactions for our global user base.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure payment systems and microservices.
- Integrate with various payment gateways, financial institutions, and third-party APIs to expand our global payment options.
- Optimize existing payment processes for enhanced efficiency, reliability, and security, ensuring a smooth user experience.
- Collaborate effectively with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to define requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
- Proactively troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues related to payments and billing.
- Mentor junior engineers, sharing your expertise and fostering their professional growth within the team.
- Contribute significantly to architectural decisions and technical roadmaps for the core payments platform.
- Ensure all payment systems adhere to relevant compliance standards and security best practices.
Skills and Experience We're Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in backend or full-stack software engineering, with a proven track record of building and deploying complex systems.
- Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Go, Python, Ruby (especially with Ruby on Rails), or similar backend technologies.
- Extensive experience working with relational databases like PostgreSQL and in-memory data stores such as Redis.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), containerization technologies (Docker), and orchestration tools (Kubernetes).
- Demonstrable experience with payment systems and APIs, including integrations with providers like Stripe, Adyen, or similar platforms.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent architectural design skills, and a keen eye for detail.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
- Bonus points for experience with frontend technologies like React, TypeScript, and JavaScript.

Important Things to Know
