Job Description

About Counterpart

Counterpart is the leading Agentic Insurance™ platform, integrating advanced AI with trusted insurance expertise to offer bespoke management and professional liability solutions. Through its Agentic Underwriting™, Agentic Broker Services™, Agentic Risk Mitigation™, Agentic Claims Management™, Agentic Coverage™, and Agentic Capacity™, Counterpart empowers brokers and businesses to enhance operations and minimize risk. Supported by A-rated carriers, Counterpart has been recognized as a “Top 50 Insurtech” by CB Insights (2025), a “Great Place to Work,” and one of Business Insurance’s “Best Places to Work” (2025).

As an Accounting Manager, you will oversee the daily financial operations within Agentic Finance, encompassing bordereau and premium reconciliation, carrier and claims payments, premium accounts receivable, accounts payable, expense management, financial reporting, audit administration, and tax filings. These functions are crucial for the seamless operation of Counterpart, Agentic Programs™, and Counterpart Insurance Company. You will have full ownership of accounts receivable, accounts payable, expense management, and vendor administration, while also supporting the Controller with bordereau, carrier payment operations, audit administration, and financial reporting. There is a clear growth path to independently manage bordereau and carrier payment operations as these processes mature. You will also develop and implement agents to drive efficiency as the company expands. This position reports directly to the Controller.

What You Will Do

Own Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Expense Management, and Vendor Administration

  • Manage premium accounts receivable from brokers comprehensively, including invoicing, installment billing, cash application against policies and endorsements, and follow up on aging and collections. This ensures timely collection and accurate application of premiums owed to Counterpart.
  • Reconcile broker premium remittances into the premium trust account, proactively clearing unapplied cash and escalating past due balances or write-off candidates to the Controller.
  • Execute Counterpart's spend management automation, including full accounts payable automation, invoice coding, and enforcement of card spend policies.
  • Administer employee expense reimbursements, establishing review standards prior to Controller sign off.
  • Maintain vendor records and documentation, including W-9 collection, and manage relationships for recurring vendor and brokerage fee payments.
  • Oversee recurring program-level reimbursement invoicing from calculation to submission.

Support Bordereau, Carrier Payment Operations, and Claims Payments

  • Prepare bordereau assembly and the premium reconciliation process across all carrier and reinsurance relationships, resolving discrepancies before they reach the Controller.
  • Maintain the carrier payment calendar, prioritizing and addressing issues in line with each carrier's timing requirements for the Controller's approval.
  • Prepare monthly loss fund reporting for carrier partners, including bank-to-book reconciliation, top up requests, and check registers, resolving variances directly with carrier contacts.
  • Execute claims payments from loss fund accounts under the Controller's payment authority, collaborating with the Claims team on payment timing and exceptions.

Support Audit Administration

  • Administer the response process for the annual company audit, carrier audit financial requests, and R&D tax credit claims. This involves compiling documentation, drafting responses, and managing deadline calendars, while the Controller manages auditor and tax advisor relationships.
  • Support Counterpart Insurance Company's statutory (STAT) reporting cadence and regulatory filings by providing essential underlying data and documentation for CIC's STAT close.
  • Continuously maintain and improve the accounting due dates calendar.

Support Financial Reporting

  • Prepare and distribute recurring carrier partner reporting packages, including unaudited financials, cash position summaries, and other standard monthly and quarterly deliverables, for the Controller's review and sign off.
  • Collaborate with the Controller to evaluate and coordinate contractor, vendor, or offshore support as the accounting function expands.

Drive Agentic Automation Across Accounting Operations

  • Develop and utilize agents to automate premium receivable cash application, bordereau assembly, premium reconciliation, and claims payment processing.
  • Ensure clean, structured financial data and workflows are integrated into Counterpart's Intelligence System.
  • Determine where agents can replace manual tasks versus where human judgment is still necessary, and partner with the technical platform team to build and continuously refine these workflows.

What You Bring

  • 5-7 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, ideally within a high growth company. Experience in insurance, insurtech, or fintech is a plus but not mandatory.
  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and STAT (Statutory Accounting Principles), with comfort operating in a regulated, multi-entity insurance business environment.
  • A proven ability to own and improve end-to-end accounting processes, not just execute tasks.
  • Hands on experience with an accounting system or ERP (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct) and an AP/spend platform (e.g., Ramp, Bill.com).
  • A demonstrated history of utilizing AI tools or agents to redesign reconciliations, payment processing, and routine bookkeeping tasks.
  • Comfort managing recurring payments, reconciliations, and deadline driven filings across multiple systems and counterparties, including direct communication with banks, brokers, carriers, tax agencies, and auditors.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, enabling you to represent Counterpart effectively with broker, carrier, and audit contacts.
  • Progress toward or interest in pursuing a CPA designation is a plus, but not required.

Who You Will Work With

  • Rob Hamilton, Controller
  • Dave Fanger, VP of Finance
  • Stanley Wang, Director, Pricing Analytics
