Job Description

About TuxCare

TuxCare provides a comprehensive portfolio of security solutions for Linux and open source software, specifically designed for enterprise organizations. Their services enable companies to automate live vulnerability patching, minimize downtime, ensure security and compliance, and leverage a team with deep expertise in Linux security. TuxCare solutions support popular Linux distributions, end-of-life systems, and various programming languages.

About the Role

TuxCare is seeking a hands-on Staff Engineer to join the team developing SecureChain, a new security product focused on open source software supply chain security. SecureChain helps companies safely utilize open source dependencies by offering packages rebuilt from verified source code, scanned for malware and supply chain risks, and continuously patched for new vulnerabilities. The product supports multiple software ecosystems, including Python, Java, JavaScript, Go, Rust, and PHP.

As SecureChain is a relatively new product, this role offers significant opportunities to shape its technical direction. You will build systems from the ground up, make architectural decisions, improve automation, and lead substantial product areas through their entire lifecycle. This position combines deep technical execution with technical product ownership, approximately 70% hands-on software engineering and 30% technical product ownership.

You will lead major product components and workstreams end-to-end, which includes clarifying requirements with stakeholders, defining milestones, designing solutions, contributing production code, delivering functionality to customers, and ensuring its ongoing reliability in production. This is an individual contributor role, not a people management position. The ideal candidate can operate autonomously, navigate ambiguity, and drive complex initiatives forward without constant supervision. Curiosity, adaptability, and a broad interest in cybersecurity are crucial for success as the product and priorities evolve.

What You'll Do:

  • Own major product components and workstreams from initial discovery and planning to production release and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate directly with engineering, product, sales, and other stakeholders to understand, gather, and clarify business and technical requirements.
  • Translate broad and often unclear product goals into technical plans, milestones, and actionable engineering tasks.
  • Design scalable system architecture and make critical technical decisions for high-impact product areas.
  • Build, review, and maintain production-grade components end-to-end, ensuring their reliability, security, performance, maintainability, and extensibility.
  • Take full responsibility for delivered components in production, including their ongoing operation and evolution.
  • Independently track progress and proactively communicate results, blockers, risks, dependencies, and evolving requirements.
  • Research relevant technologies, tools, market approaches, and competitor solutions as needed.
  • Contribute to engineering quality through design reviews, technical guidance, mentorship, and best practices.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience owning major projects or workstreams from start to finish.
  • Strong backend engineering experience in Python, Go, or Java.
  • Strong system design and architectural thinking, coupled with the ability to implement proposed solutions hands-on.
  • Experience gathering and refining requirements, transforming broad or unclear needs into detailed technical plans, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Strong technical product ownership and a clear understanding of how engineering decisions support broader product and business goals.
  • Ability to work independently without close day-to-day supervision.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in working directly with engineering teams, product stakeholders, sales, and other departments.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical decisions, progress, risks, and blockers.
  • Regular use of AI-assisted development tools for planning, implementation, debugging, testing, refactoring, or code review, integrating AI into the development workflow rather than for occasional experimentation.
  • Ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term scalability, maintainability, and extensibility.

Benefits:

What's in it for you?

  • A strong focus on professional development and continuous learning.
  • Engaging and challenging projects that make a real impact.
  • Fully remote work with flexible hours, allowing you to schedule your day and work from any location worldwide.
  • Generous paid time off: 24 days of vacation per year, 10 national holidays, and unlimited sick leave.
  • Compensation for private medical insurance.
  • Reimbursement for co-working spaces and gym/sports memberships.
  • A dedicated budget for education and professional development.
  • The opportunity to receive a reward for innovative ideas that the company can patent.
