Role overview

We are seeking a hands-on Staff Engineer to lead development of complex, cross-cutting systems while owning product vision and roadmap. This role is a mix of senior software development and technical product ownership, responsible for turning stakeholder requests into proofs of concept and production-grade solutions. The ideal candidate is strategic, technically excellent, and comfortable leading architecture and implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Gather requirements from multiple stakeholders and translate them into technical goals.
• Lead architectural design and set technical direction for high-impact initiatives.
• Guide engineering teams to adopt scalable, maintainable solutions and best practices.
• Collaborate across teams to align priorities, deliverables, and roadmaps.
• Promote engineering excellence through design reviews, mentorship, and automation.
• Research and evaluate new technologies, methodologies, and tools.
• Ensure robustness, security, and performance of solutions in production.
• Balance short-term iteration with long-term scalability and lifecycle ownership.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Python is required.
• Proven hands-on engineering leadership and regular code contributions.
• Experience acting as a technical product owner - shaping direction, defining roadmaps, and aligning stakeholders.
• Ownership of full lifecycle delivery from concept to production and ongoing evolution.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders.
• Strategic thinking with solid execution skills and ability to make engineering trade-offs within business context.
• Experience researching language ecosystems and designing universal data models is a plus.

Real-world challenge example

One core initiative is building a unified dependency graph to map the software supply chain for thousands of applications. Responsibilities include:

• Research how 5+ languages handle packages and design a universal, efficient data model.
• Design algorithms to resolve complex dependency trees at scale, handling static vs. dynamic linking, runtime vs. compile-time scopes, and version ranges.
• Create context-aware logic that models environment-specific dependencies and package manager behaviors (Pip, Poetry, Maven, Gradle).
• Drive consensus and rollout of the standard across teams.
