Data Platform Engineer at CloudLinux

About the role

CloudLinux is transforming Linux infrastructure for hosting and enterprise customers with products such as CloudLinux OS, TuxCare, and Imunify360. We are hiring a visionary engineer to lead the evolution of our data platform as we move to an Internal Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) model. This role focuses on designing resilient distributed database systems, automating infrastructure, and turning databases into reliable self-service products for internal teams.

Your challenges and responsibilities

• DBaaS architecture - Design and implement a self-service platform using Terraform and Ansible to deploy highly available clusters (PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, MongoDB, Redis) across a heterogeneous environment (Bare Metal, OpenNebula, Kubernetes, public clouds).
• Scaling ClickHouse - Operate and optimize large analytics clusters, handle sharding, ReplicatedMergeTree tuning, and build reliable S3 backup pipelines under high load.
• Data platform and analytics support - Maintain and scale Apache Airflow and Redash infrastructure to ensure reliable ETL pipelines and visualizations.
• Reliability as code - Apply SRE practices, automate incident response, implement self-healing, and define SLO/SLI for databases.
• Stack modernization - Lead migration from legacy systems to modern cloud patterns and evaluate Kubernetes operators for stateful workloads.
• Expertise and mentorship - Act as technical authority for product teams, optimize data schemas and SQL queries for high-load systems, and mentor engineers.

• Automation and IaC: Terraform, Ansible, Python, Go, GitLab, Jenkins, Gerrit
• Observability: VictoriaMetrics, Grafana, Loki

What we expect from you

• PostgreSQL expertise - 5+ years experience with deep knowledge of MVCC, locking, Patroni, PgBouncer, and major version upgrades under load.
• ClickHouse mastery - Experience operating large clusters, understanding ZooKeeper or ClickHouse Keeper, sharding and replication internals, and diagnosing performance at data-part level.
• Engineering mindset - SRE/DevOps approach, strong automation skills, and mandatory experience writing complex Terraform modules and Ansible roles. Programming in Python or Go is a strong plus.
• Hybrid environment experience - Knowledge of running DBs on Bare Metal, Kubernetes, and cloud, and ability to optimize TCO and disk subsystem performance (NVMe, network storage).
• Systems approach - Big picture thinking from network to application, with emphasis on security and disaster recovery.

Nice to have

• Experience building an Internal Developer Platform (IDP)
• Operating databases in Kubernetes with CloudNativePG or Altinity Operator
• Experience with cloud and hosting providers on similar services
