Job Description

About Supabase

Supabase is the Postgres development platform, created by developers for developers. The platform offers a complete backend solution that includes Database, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions, Realtime, and Vector Search. All services are tightly integrated and built to scale.

About the Role

Supabase manages millions of Postgres instances and continues to grow. The company has strong teams in observability, release engineering, and incident management, and is now bringing its reliability efforts together into a dedicated SRE practice that unifies the discipline across the platform.

In this role you will be embedded within Service Operations. Your main objective is to help every engineering team become more reliable, not by taking over their infrastructure, but by putting in place the practices, frameworks, and feedback loops that allow them to own reliability themselves. You will collaborate across the organization: at times setting the standard, at times pair programming a fix, at times helping a team define their error budget, and at times letting them know it has been exhausted.

This position is well suited to someone who has a clear vision for how SRE should operate and who thrives in async, fast paced environments where influence counts more than authority.

What You Will Own

  • Work with service teams to define meaningful SLIs and SLOs based on customer experience, and build error budget policies that convert them into engineering decisions.
  • Own and evolve the Operational Readiness Review (ORR) process, running reviews for new services and major changes across observability, alerting, runbooks, capacity, and graceful degradation.
  • Strengthen the incident to improvement pipeline by linking postmortem findings to operational readiness gaps, spotting repeat failure patterns, and driving systemic fixes.
  • Serve as the reliability expert teams call on for architecture reviews, failure mode analysis, dependency mapping, and resilience design.
  • Identify and measure operational toil across the organization, and build or advocate for automation that removes it.
  • Help teams design sustainable on call practices, including alert quality, escalation paths, runbook coverage, and noise reduction.
  • Track and report on organization wide operational maturity, highlighting systemic gaps and driving remediation.

You Might Be a Good Fit If You

  • Have 7 or more years of experience in SRE, production engineering, or reliability focused roles, including experience shaping SRE practices and driving adoption across engineering teams.
  • Have a software engineering mindset: you write code and build tools, not just configure them.
  • Have hands on experience defining and operationalizing SLOs and SLIs at scale, including error budget policies that actually influenced engineering decisions.
  • Have deep experience with incident response, postmortem facilitation, and turning incident learnings into systemic improvements.
  • Have worked with large scale multi tenant systems (a bonus if you have worked with managed database platforms or Postgres).
  • Are proficient with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and infrastructure as code (Pulumi preferred, Terraform or CDK also acceptable).
  • Communicate clearly and persuasively; this role requires influencing without authority across a distributed organization.
  • Have experience in async or globally distributed teams.
  • Are energized by making other teams more effective rather than being the one who fixes everything.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Kubernetes based platform operations.
  • Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, VictoriaMetrics, Grafana, or similar observability tooling.
  • Experience building developer facing reliability tooling such as SLO dashboards, ORR frameworks, toil tracking, or DORA metrics.
