Job Description

About the Role

Raya is seeking a highly skilled Senior iOS Engineer to take full ownership of the client-side implementation for how members join, pay, and maintain their membership within the app. This pivotal role within the Member Experience team covers the complete member lifecycle, including application, onboarding, payments, and ongoing management. Your primary focus will be on the critical revenue-generating surfaces: the paywall, the purchase flow, and displaying the member's subscription status within the application.

This is a specialized role for a payments expert, not a generalist iOS developer. We are looking for someone who has extensively built and operated native Apple StoreKit2 integrations multiple times, demonstrating deep ownership from integration and shipping to handling complex edge cases. You should also possess production experience with Stripe for consumer-facing products. This role requires close collaboration with our server team, who manage App Store Server Notifications V2, the source of truth for entitlements, and reconciliation processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Completely own the iOS subscription and payments stack, encompassing product configuration, purchase and restore workflows, entitlement state, offers, and the member-facing paywall interfaces.
  • Serve as the definitive client-side authority on StoreKit2. This includes architecting integrations, establishing best practices, and adeptly managing all lifecycle edge cases, such as interrupted and deferred purchases, upgrades, downgrades, crossgrades, refunds, revocations, billing retries, and price increase consent.
  • Collaborate closely with the server team to ensure entitlement accuracy, bridging the client/server gap on signed transaction verification, reconciliation, and idempotency to prevent discrepancies between the app's display and the backend's data.
  • Partner with product, design, and data teams on pricing strategies, offers, and paywall experimentation. This involves scoping and delivering revenue-impacting projects from initial concept through launch and performance measurement.
  • Contribute broadly to a substantial and evolving iOS codebase, focusing on architecture, system design, performance optimization, testing methodologies, and proactive management of technical debt.
  • Act as the primary client-side escalation point for member payment issues, employing robust monitoring and release discipline to identify and resolve problems before they affect members.
  • Elevate the engineering standard through diligent code reviews, technical mentorship, and the creation of clear, comprehensive written specifications.

Requirements

  • Over 7 years of professional iOS development experience, showcasing strong proficiency in Swift, UIKit, MVVM architectural patterns, and reactive programming.
  • Expert-level, hands-on experience with Apple StoreKit2. You must have built and successfully operated StoreKit2 integrations end-to-end at least twice in a production environment. This includes owning product configuration, purchase and restore flows, Transaction.updates, managing current entitlements and subscription status, implementing introductory / promotional / win-back offers, handling offer codes, and conducting thorough sandbox-to-production testing.
  • Demonstrated direct, native StoreKit2 integration experience and a deep understanding of the framework itself, extending beyond merely consuming third-party abstraction layers.
  • Proven production experience with Stripe Payments/Subscriptions for a B2C product (this is a secondary requirement to Apple payments experience, but still essential).
  • Experience collaborating effectively with a server team on subscription correctness, including familiarity with App Store Server Notifications V2, signed transaction verification, reconciliation, and idempotent handling of duplicate events.
  • A verifiable track record of building and successfully launching consumer mobile applications to large-scale audiences, accompanied by excellent judgment in architecture, performance optimization, and user experience design.
  • Strong consumer product sense and a demonstrated ability to partner effectively with product, design, and data teams on initiatives that directly impact revenue.
  • Proven capability to lead projects from concept through launch, expertly balancing speed with quality, and taking full ownership of what you deliver post-deployment.
  • An AI-forward mindset, coupled with a genuine curiosity for applying emerging technologies to enhance both developer and product experiences.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with migrating a production application from StoreKit1 to StoreKit2.
  • Familiarity with operating a subscription product simultaneously across two payment processors, maintaining a single active entitlement per member.
  • Experience with SwiftUI in conjunction with UIKit, and with modularizing large iOS codebases for improved maintainability.
  • Practical experience with paywall and pricing experimentation frameworks, as well as subscription analytics tools.
