We are looking for a talented and experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our growing engineering team. You will play a critical role in building and maintaining the core backend services that power our global platform, ensuring reliability, scalability, and excellent performance.

What You Will Do

• Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable backend services using modern technologies.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code to support our core insurance and payroll functionalities.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade the distributed systems that power SafetyWing's platform.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to maintaining high engineering standards.

What We Are Looking For

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant time focused on backend systems.
• Expert proficiency in at least one major backend language (e.g., Python, Node.js, Go, or similar).
• Strong experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Deep understanding of database technologies including relational databases (like PostgreSQL or MySQL) and NoSQL stores.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is a strong plus.
• A passion for building reliable, high-performance, and highly available software that supports a global user base.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven ability to take ownership of features from conception through deployment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to articulate technical trade-offs clearly.
