About the Role

As a Technical Writer at Camunda, you will be embedded within product teams, taking full ownership of documentation for key areas of our platform. You will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and designers to ensure our documentation is clear, accurate, and tightly aligned with the product experience. This is a hands-on role where you will become a subject matter expert, directly shaping the developer journey through high-impact content across the Camunda platform. Beyond content creation, you will help maintain and configure the infrastructure that ensures our documentation runs smoothly. We are looking for someone who can proactively unblock themselves and the team when technical issues arise.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

• Troubleshooting and fixing failing GitHub Actions workflows, which involves reading CI logs, isolating breaking changes, and restoring build functionality.
• Reviewing and merging contributions from engineers and the wider community, ensuring branches and versioned documentation releases are well maintained.
• Diagnosing broken links, redirects, MDX and rendering errors, and search indexing issues across current and versioned content.
• Handling Docusaurus, Node, and dependency upgrades, and resolving any associated breakages.
• Improving the tooling, automation, and linting that writers and contributors rely on, to maintain a fast and predictable publishing process.

You do not need to be a full time developer, but you should be confident with Git and GitHub workflows, the command line, YAML and JavaScript-based config, Markdown/MDX, and adept at reading error traces to determine solvability or when to engage an engineer. You will join a collaborative, mission driven team dedicated to helping developers become productive with Camunda technologies quickly and enjoyably. Developers with technical writing experience are encouraged to apply.

What You’ll Be Doing

1. Own and drive the documentation for one or more product areas, acting as the embedded technical writer within the corresponding product teams.
2. Maintain and improve our documentation site's technical infrastructure, including build tooling, deployment pipelines, and Docusaurus platform configuration, to ensure fast, reliable, and scalable publishing.
3. Work closely with engineers, product managers, and designers to stay deeply informed about the product roadmap and ensure documentation is accurate, timely, and aligned with feature development.
4. Become a subject matter expert in your assigned product areas, developing hands-on experience with Camunda products to create documentation that reflects real-world usage and developer needs.
5. Lead documentation efforts from concept through to release, including planning, writing, reviewing, and maintaining content that empowers developers to succeed with Camunda technologies.
6. Advocate for documentation as a critical part of the user experience, bringing the user’s perspective into product discussions and influencing design and implementation where appropriate.
7. Continuously improve the structure, clarity, and completeness of the documentation based on analytics, user feedback, and your own insights.
8. Collaborate with other writers and the broader Documentation team to share best practices, contribute to team goals, and evolve our documentation tooling and standards.

What You Bring

• 3+ years of technical writing experience and a strong portfolio of developer-focused content such as user guides, installation guides, API references, tutorials, and technical blog posts.
• Proven experience maintaining, troubleshooting, configuring, and extending documentation site infrastructure and deployment pipelines, preferably using Docusaurus.
• Hands-on experience with Java, Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, and related technologies, and a proven ability to deeply understand, use, and test complex technical products (ideally with Camunda 8 or similar products).
• Experience with writing about on-premise software installation or other technical environments, as well as SaaS and software documentation.
• Proven ability to tailor content for diverse audiences and technical backgrounds, including software engineers, application developers, business analysts, and process owners.
• Experience with docs-as-code workflows and documentation frameworks such as Docusaurus, and using AI, Git, and Markdown in a developer-centric environment.
• Ability and/or willingness to use Camunda products.

Nice-to-haves:

• Software engineering experience, or proficiency with one or more programming languages.
• Comfortable iterating on an existing technical writing style guide and advocating for its cross-functional use.

What We Have to Offer

Compensation

We offer competitive, fair, and transparent compensation. Salary ranges are location based, with Standard and Major markets (global tech hubs) reflecting local competition. The Annual Total Target Cash (base salary + 100% variable target, where applicable) shown below spans from the minimum in a Standard market to the maximum in a Major market. Final offers depend on skills, experience, and location, and we typically hire in the first half of the range to allow room for growth:

• United States: $102,300.00 to $164,900.00
• United Kingdom: £64,200.00 to £105,600.00
• Singapore: S$127,000.00 to S$190,500.00
• Canada: C$108,600.00 to C$178,600.00
