Job Description

Camunda, the enterprise platform for agentic orchestration, is transforming into an AI-first organization. As a leader in business orchestration, Camunda is trusted by over 700 organizations worldwide, including 9 of the top 10 US banks. We are rapidly growing and seeking top talent to join our team.

About the Role

We are looking for a strategic and operationally excellent Senior Compensation Operations Manager to take ownership of designing, implementing, and governing our enterprise sales compensation program. This senior individual contributor role reports directly to the VP of Revenue Operations. You will act as the architect and steward of compensation strategy across our diverse go-to-market organization. You will partner with GTM Leadership, Finance, and People Operations to build world-class compensation programs that attract talent, drive desired behaviors, and align with business objectives. Your responsibilities will cover the full lifecycle of compensation, from initial design and implementation through to compliance, analytics, and continuous improvement, covering variable compensation plans for Account Executives, Sales Engineers, Sales Leaders, Partner Managers, Customer Success Managers, Technical Account Managers, and other functions.

What You Will Do

Compensation Strategy & Design

  • Own the strategic design of annual sales compensation programs for all eligible roles, adapting to market conditions, competitive landscapes, and evolving business priorities.
  • Benchmark compensation against market data and peer software companies, while conducting pay equity analysis and recommending adjustments to ensure fairness and competitiveness.
  • Design robust commission structures, accelerators, quotas, and incentive mechanics designed to drive desired sales behaviors and achieve revenue goals.
  • Design and own SPIFF and other incentive programs that fall outside the scope of the official incentive plan.
  • Lead cross-functional design reviews involving Sales, Finance, and executive leadership to validate programs before launch.

Program Implementation & Operations

  • Manage the end-to-end program launch calendar, coordinating cross-functional efforts and clearly communicating timelines, changes, and deadlines to all stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain the single source of truth for all compensation program documentation, including plan documents, commission schedules, quota assignments, and policy guidelines.
  • Configure compensation programs within Xactly and Salesforce, ensuring data integrity, validating calculations, and confirming system configurations accurately reflect approved plan designs.
  • Develop comprehensive training materials and lead training sessions for sales teams covering compensation plan mechanics, commission calculations, and incentive rules.

Governance & Compliance

  • Guarantee that all compensation programs adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and company policies across all operating geographies.
  • Manage exceptions, disputes, and appeals related to commissions, quotas, and incentive payouts, working with the VP of RevOps, Finance, and HR for efficient and fair resolution.
  • Maintain thorough audit trails and documentation for all significant compensation decisions and changes.

Analytics & Reporting

  • Build dynamic dashboards and reports to monitor role-based performance metrics, compensation spend, payout distributions, plan attainment, and the ROI on incentive investments, including SPIFF reporting metrics.
  • Conduct thorough post-program analysis (win/loss, attainment distribution, program metrics) and deliver actionable insights to leadership regarding plan effectiveness.
  • Recommend mid-year program adjustments based on market shifts, business performance, and direct feedback from sales leaders.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Partner with the VP of RevOps to ensure compensation strategy is perfectly aligned with overall business strategy and sales priorities, maintaining consistent feedback loops with Sales Leaders.
  • Work directly with Commission Accounting regarding attainment data, payouts, calculations, and any discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and year-end reporting for incentive spend.
  • Coordinate with People Operations concerning equity, total rewards strategy, and talent retention initiatives.
  • Communicate compensation strategy and subsequent changes to the broader organization with absolute clarity and confidence.

What You Will Bring to the Role

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience in sales compensation, incentive design, or related revenue operations roles, with a preference for experience within software, SaaS, or enterprise sales settings.
  • Proven expertise in designing and administering compensation programs for multiple sales roles and various structures.
  • Advanced proficiency in sales compensation platforms like Xactly, Anaplan, SAP SuccessFactors, or equivalent, coupled with strong data analysis and Excel skills.
  • Deep understanding of CRM systems, with Salesforce experience being preferred, and comfort in configuring objects, fields, and reporting for incentive programs.
  • Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills; ability to influence without direct authority and effectively manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to translate highly complex compensation concepts for diverse audiences such as sales teams, executives, finance, and HR.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Familiarity with GDPR, CCPA, and other employment law considerations that specifically affect compensation in global organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing compensation programs across multiple geographic regions, navigating differing regulatory requirements.
  • A background in financial analysis, FP&A, or accounting, including an understanding of how revenue recognition impacts compensation timing.
  • Exposure to Customer Success, Services, or other non-traditional sales compensation models.
  • Certification in compensation (such as WorldatWork CECP, GRP) or related HR disciplines.
  • Experience working at a high-growth or publicly traded software company.
