Role Overview

As a Senior Developer Advocate at GitLab, you will be responsible for educating technical audiences on how to effectively use GitLab's intelligent orchestration platform. This platform enables teams and their AI agents to ship secure software faster. You will focus heavily on the product, specifically GitLab Duo Agent Platform and our newest capabilities, while continuously seeking out real-world use cases that resonate with developers.

Your role is centered on demonstrating the product in action and cultivating relationships within the customer base and the broader developer community. You will be required to cover events and will collaborate across U.S. and Canadian time zones.

Responsibilities

• Gain a deep technical understanding of the GitLab platform, paying special attention to our AI agent capabilities, and actively discover productive, real-world use cases for demonstration.
• Develop diverse product content, which includes videos, blog posts, presentations, and social media clips, showcasing key use cases for GitLab within its user interface and terminal.
• End-to-end production of video content: scripting, recording, and editing product walkthrough demos, in addition to collaborating with GitLab's video team on more complex, high-production pieces.
• Delivering compelling product demonstrations and participating in analyst briefings.
• Engaging with customers through webinars, dedicated customer meetings, and various other strategic conversations.
• Actively participating in the developer community by engaging on the GitLab forum and Discord. You will monitor conversations on social platforms, in newsletters, and at industry events to ensure GitLab has a strong presence in relevant discussions.
• Answering technical inquiries that arise from the sales team, and partnering cross functionally with support, sales, and product teams to develop developer-facing educational materials.
• Utilizing hands-on product experience to provide valuable feedback to product teams and actively testing new features.
• Contributing to technical research and in-depth analysis of the current developer tools landscape.
• This role requires up to 20% travel to attend industry events and meet with customers.

Qualifications

What You Should Bring

• Hands-on Technical Expertise: You must possess hands-on technical experience and a fundamental understanding of how software is built, particularly focusing on the processes occurring after coding. You should be capable of discussing these topics credibly with experienced engineers.
• AI and Software Development Understanding: Familiarity with artificial intelligence and its application in software development, spanning from initial coding phases through to production environments. Evidence of building and operating agentic systems and infrastructure is required.
• Communication Skills: The ability to explain complex technical products with clarity. This includes presenting demos, recording walkthrough videos, or speaking at industry conferences without feeling forced.
• Community Fluency: Familiarity and fluency in developer social platforms. You must understand what captures the interest of your target audience and be able to participate in those conversations with technical credibility.
• Mindset: A high degree of curiosity and self-direction. This means proactively identifying interesting topics, tracking relevant individuals, and spotting emerging opportunities.
• Experience: Proven experience engaging with customers, developers, or technical communities.
• Collaboration: Ability to work autonomously while effectively collaborating across Sales, Engineering, Product, and other internal departments.

About the Team

The Developer Advocacy team is dedicated to creating compelling content that showcases GitLab in use. You will engage directly with customers and the broader developer community, and you will channel hands-on product feedback directly back to the relevant GitLab teams. Furthermore, the team contributes to technical research and analysis, and partners with other groups to disseminate these valuable findings.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range listed for this specific role level is intended for residents of the United States. This range reflects the expected base salary rate within the US locations.

The stated base salary range for this position is $115,200 to $194,400 USD. Please note that this range does not include bonuses, equity, or other benefits. Sales-focused roles are eligible for incentive pay that can target up to 100% of the offered base salary.
