Role Overview: Senior Software Engineer, Core Reliability

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Infra Reliability team within Platform, you will play a crucial role in helping Coinbase scale by 50x. This involves significantly improving reliability, security, and deployment safety across our entire production environment. Your team is responsible for the systems that secure service configurations and secrets, minimize customer-facing incidents, and reinforce the deployment infrastructure supporting thousands of services and hundreds of daily releases. You will lead high impact reliability projects designed to make our service environment more resilient and safer for our customers.

What You Will Do:

• Own the design and implementation of reliability projects and features that enhance resiliency across Coinbase's service environment, collaborating closely with other engineering teams.
• Partner with critical Tier 0 and Tier 1 services to deeply understand their architecture, improve scalability, and reduce operational toil.
• Build and enhance systems responsible for securely managing service configurations and secrets at scale.
• Improve canary-based release systems and expand deployment capabilities to effectively support thousands of services and hundreds of daily deployments while maintaining low incident rates.
• Promote and drive reliability best practices, strengthening the reliability culture across all engineering teams at Coinbase.

Required Skills and Experience:

• A minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience building and maintaining production services within service-oriented architectures. This includes demonstrable experience with Ruby, Go, Terraform, and major cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Proven ability to design and operate reliable, low latency, high throughput distributed systems at massive scale, coupled with a strong history of writing well tested, production quality code.
• Experience utilizing observability and monitoring tools (like Kibana or Datadog) to troubleshoot complex production problems, optimize system performance, and decrease incident frequency.
• Demonstrated skill in writing and verbally communicating complex architecture decisions to diverse, cross functional engineering stakeholders.
• Willingness and ability to participate in on call rotations and respond to critical issues outside of standard business hours.
• Proficiency in responsibly utilizing generative AI, ensuring human oversight to produce business ready outputs that drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Transparency: Base salary varies based on location. Total compensation may also include eligibility for equity and bonuses, alongside benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).

Annual Base Salary Range (excluding equity and bonus): $186,065 - $197,010 USD
