About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned full-stack engineer to contribute to the evolution and expansion of Circle Discover. Circle Discover is our curated marketplace designed for finding and purchasing digital experiences, including communities, courses, memberships, and more. As a key member of the Discover team, you will be instrumental in building the product surface area that facilitates member exploration, discovery, and joining of digital experiences. This includes developing algorithmic recommendations, rich listings, engaging content feeds, and seamless purchasing flows. We are looking for an individual passionate about shaping how people derive value from community and deeply committed to crafting intuitive, performant, and elegant user experiences at scale.

What You Will Be Doing

• Develop polished, high-converting purchasing experiences that enable members to discover digital experiences and empower businesses to sell digital memberships, courses, and content at scale.
• Execute A/B tests and experiments to validate changes aimed at boosting user acquisition, retention, and conversion behaviors.
• Implement and enhance features within the Discover Next.js frontend application, alongside developing API endpoints in our Ruby on Rails backend.
• Contribute to data pipelines and services that power search and recommendation functionalities.
• Proactively elevate the quality of our codebase, processes, and architectural design.
• Collaborate closely with Circle's leadership throughout the feature design lifecycle.
• Work in tandem with our designers to deliver a world-class user experience.
• Cultivate a bias for action, prioritizing rapid iteration without compromising code quality or user experience.

What You Will Need to Be Successful

• Over 5 years of experience as a full-stack engineer working on complex web applications with significant scale (e.g., 100k+ RPM, 100GB+ databases).
• Strong proficiency in Next.js, ReactJS, TypeScript, Tailwind, Ruby on Rails, and MySQL/PostgreSQL. A foundational understanding of both frontend and backend development is essential, with a high degree of proficiency in frontend technologies being required.
• A keen desire to thrive in an environment that values speed of iteration and individual autonomy, while also embracing personal accountability and effective collaboration within a dynamic team.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with inherent ambiguity, especially when learning and adopting new technologies as projects demand.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
• Demonstrated experience working effectively in a fully distributed remote team setting.
• Strong alignment with Circle's core values.
• Proficiency in English (spoken, written, and reading) at a CEFR Level C2 / ILR Level 5.

Bonus Points

• Prior experience with creator platforms, social content and video feeds, or marketplace development.
• Experience with A/B testing and experimentation to optimize user experience, performance, and conversion in consumer-facing applications.
• Previous exposure to designing and implementing search, recommendation, and personalization systems at scale.
• Production experience with Next.js and hybrid React/Next.js systems for high-traffic applications.
