About the Role: Senior Backend Engineer, Core APIs
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our API team, focusing on the development of end-to-end fraud detection solutions. This role primarily involves building highly performant backend systems and infrastructure capable of handling large-scale, real-time data processing.
This position requires strong expertise in backend software development, specifically in API development and scaling existing systems using both Go and Node.js. You will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable, high-performance backend systems, ensuring seamless integration with other components. You'll take full ownership of features, from initial concept to final deployment, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust and reliable solutions. A key aspect of this role is a deep understanding of scaling distributed systems to efficiently expand our capacity as our user base rapidly grows.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize backend systems for real-time data processing and web services.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate backend components with other services, ensuring optimal performance and scalability.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of problematic features, researching root causes, identifying solutions, and translating findings into actionable engineering improvements through experimentation.
- Perform performance tuning, debugging, and testing of backend systems to guarantee reliability and efficiency. Foster a data-driven culture by sharing engineering best practices and contributing to cross-functional projects.
- Participate in a shared on-call rotation, with schedules communicated in advance to ensure equitable coverage and minimize off-hours disruptions.
- Mentor junior developers, supporting the growth of all team members in alignment with our mission, values, and capabilities.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in backend development.
- Strong, demonstrated experience in GoLang and/or Node.js, with a willingness to learn both.
- Proven experience in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems.
- Experience with building and optimizing APIs, real-time data processing systems, and microservices architectures.
- Strong knowledge of SQL and experience with databases such as DynamoDB, Redis, or Elasticsearch.
- Proficiency with essential software engineering tools including Git, IDEs, shell scripting, and CI/CD.
- Fluent in English for effective communication within a global, remote team.
- Ability to work independently on tasks while actively collaborating as a team member.
Nice to Have
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
- Proficiency in Backend development technologies such as Golang and NodeJS (preferred), TypeScript, Express, or equivalent.
- Experience with Data analytics/processing tools like ClickHouse or dbt.
- Practical experience with analytical storage systems including ClickHouse, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Databricks.
- Experience with observability tools like Datadog or other monitoring and logging platforms.
- Understanding of modern containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience contributing to large open-source projects, demonstrating the ability to work and communicate asynchronously across a worldwide team.
- Demonstrated experience with both Node.js and Go in a backend context.
- Excellent understanding of Internet security & privacy mechanisms.
Compensation
For US-based employees, the cash compensation range for this role is $130,000, $180,000 USD. Our salary ranges for all US roles are standardized based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar-stage growth companies. We provide salary ranges on all job postings for transparency and compliance with local legislation; these ranges are specific to the hiring location and may vary within or outside the US.
Due to regulatory and security considerations, Fingerprint cannot have teammates based in a small number of countries. As an all-remote company, we do not sponsor visas; all Fingerprint teammates must be authorized to work from their home location.
