About This Role

LiveKit is actively seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to collaborate directly with customers who are developing real-time communication and voice AI applications utilizing the LiveKit platform. This role uniquely blends engineering, architectural design, and customer implementation expertise. Forward Deployed Engineers are integral partners to customers, assisting in system design, prototyping solutions, and resolving intricate technical challenges as projects transition from experimental phases to production deployments. You will work embedded with customer engineering teams to ensure the successful deployment and scaling of applications built on LiveKit. This includes designing optimal architectures, building critical integrations, debugging complex production issues, and developing best practice reference implementations. Fluency in both Spanish and English is a key requirement for this position, enabling support for customer engineering teams across Spanish speaking markets. This is an ideal opportunity for engineers who are passionate about solving tangible, real world problems within dynamic customer environments. You will also collaborate closely with our Product and Engineering teams, leveraging insights from customer implementations to help shape the future development of the LiveKit platform. What You'll Do

• Work directly (remotely or on site when necessary) with customer engineering teams to design and implement real time applications built on LiveKit.
• Design scalable architectures tailored for voice AI, real time media, and developer platform use cases.
• Build prototype integrations, reference implementations, and sample applications to accelerate customer development cycles.
• Guide customers through the effective use of SDKs, APIs, infrastructure, and deployment strategies for production systems.
• Debug and troubleshoot complex technical issues encountered in production environments.
• Lead technical workshops and architecture sessions for developers and product teams.
• Translate customer requirements and feedback into actionable technical insights to inform product and platform development.
• Partner with Product and Engineering teams to enhance developer experience, documentation, and tooling.
• Contribute code, examples, or improvements to LiveKit's open source ecosystem as appropriate.
• Serve as a trusted advisor, helping customers successfully launch and scale their applications on LiveKit.

Who You Are

• Possess a strong engineering background with 7 or more years of experience in backend or infrastructure engineering roles.
• Proficient in one or more programming languages such as Golang, Python, Node.js, Rust, or C++.
• Comfortable navigating APIs, SDKs, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure.
• Experienced in building or integrating developer platforms or real time systems.
• Able to quickly comprehend complex systems and debug issues within real world environments.
• An excellent communicator capable of collaborating directly with customer engineering teams and internal product teams.
• Comfortable operating in fast paced, low process environments where taking ownership and showing initiative are highly valued.
• Enthusiastic about working hands on with customers to solve complex technical implementation challenges.
• Fluent in both Spanish and English (written and spoken), with the ability to work directly with customer teams in either language.

Nice to Have

• Experience with WebRTC, real time media systems, or telephony/SIP infrastructure.
• Familiarity with voice AI, conversational agents, or AI infrastructure.
• Previous experience in customer facing engineering roles such as Solutions Engineer, Field Engineer, or Forward Deployed Engineer.
• Experience contributing to open source projects or developer ecosystems.
• Prior experience building with or integrating LiveKit.
