About This Role

Developer-centric companies often approach marketing with skepticism, which means our web presence must be exceptionally well-executed to avoid feeling like traditional marketing. This is precisely the challenge of this role.

Many roles described as "design engineer" are, in practice, front-end positions focused solely on implementing mockups and closing tickets. This role is fundamentally different. We are in the process of launching a new brand identity, and we need a talented engineer to bring it to life, developing the necessary components, motion systems, and tooling that transform a brand from a static PDF into a dynamic, tangible reality.

You are the type of individual who would meticulously profile an animation at 10 PM to ensure a non-negotiable 60 frames per second, instinctively recognize an incorrect easing curve from across a room, and understand that the true work lies in bridging the gap between "looks like the design" and "feels alive."

You will excel as a Design Engineer if you:

• Obsess over crafting code that is fast, reliable, and practical for solving complex problems.
• Are recognized as the go-to expert for tackling difficult technical challenges.
• Are a diligent worker who can build and ship solutions rapidly.
• Possess the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Are a rapid learner, frequently acquiring proficiency in new languages and tools.

What You Will Do

• Take ownership of the craft behind livekit.com, pushing the boundaries of what a developer-facing marketing site can achieve in terms of motion, interaction, and overall performance.
• Engineer our new brand identity into a cohesive, living system, including components, motion patterns, and robust tooling that empowers the entire team to deliver on-brand work swiftly.
• Develop launch pages, product pages, and campaign surfaces that consistently meet an incredibly high standard without hindering team velocity.
• Treat performance as a core feature, creating rich user experiences that remain fast, meticulously measured, and rigorously defended with real performance budgets.
• Collaborate daily with brand designers, marketers, and the design engineering team to transform ambitious concepts into shipped web products.

Who You Are

• An exceptional front-end engineer with a compelling portfolio of production web work that speaks for itself.
• Obsessive about every detail, motion, interaction, and performance are your native domain, not mere checkboxes.
• Proficient in translating brand and design intentions into scalable, reusable systems and components.
• Fast and self-directed, capable of shipping polished work without requiring perfect specifications.
• A strong collaborator with designers, you enhance their ideas rather than simplifying them for convenience.

Nice to Have

• Experience at a developer tools, API, or infrastructure company, understanding why engineers often distrust marketing and how to effectively engage them.
• Proficiency in WebGL, shaders, or creative coding techniques for those moments that demand truly unique visual experiences.
• Contributions to design systems, including tokens, primitives, and documentation that is genuinely utilized by others.
• Experience overcoming challenges in achieving high Core Web Vitals scores for a complex site, coupled with strong opinions on best practices.
• A personal collection of screen recordings showcasing interactions from other websites, maintained purely for study purposes (we will not judge).
