Role Overview

Coinbase is hiring an experienced Engineering Manager to join the Trading team to build and scale the core systems that power crypto trading. You will work at the intersection of crypto, trading infrastructure, and consumer product, helping deliver a secure, performant trading experience across Simple Trade, Advanced Trade, Derivatives, and DEX functionality. This is an opportunity to tackle significant engineering challenges and contribute directly to Coinbase's core business.

What you will be doing

• Build and manage full-stack engineering teams that deliver features, services, and infrastructure across web and mobile.
• Coach direct reports to increase impact and support career growth.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into quarterly roadmaps, break down complex projects, and lead iterative design and implementation.
• Be a thoughtful technical voice, guiding architectural decisions and fostering high-quality code and engineering processes.
• Ensure successful delivery and operation of multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale, meeting engineering SLAs.
• Power highly performant, highly available systems for traders worldwide and architect robust systems that support many instrument types such as Spot, Futures, and Perpetual Futures.
• Translate ideas into high-value features customers love, and participate in on-call rotations, incident leadership, and technical troubleshooting when needed.

What we look for in you

• At least 7 years of software engineering experience, especially with web-scale traffic.
• Minimum 2 years of engineering management experience.
• Strong understanding of high-quality code and effective engineering processes, and the ability to create environments that foster those principles.
• Execution-focused mindset, able to navigate ambiguity and drive results while balancing long-term strategy and short-term planning.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Willingness to be hands-on when needed, including code reviews, incident management, and troubleshooting.
• Passion for building an open financial system and a high bar for product excellence paired with comprehensive observability.

Nice to haves

• Experience working on active trading systems or high availability financial systems.
• Personal experience trading crypto or other financial instruments.
• Experience leading rapid company growth or re-architecting legacy systems.
• Familiarity with Golang, MongoDB, Redis.
• Crypto-forward experience, including interacting with Ethereum addresses, ENS, dApps, or blockchain services.

Compensation

Pay Range (USD): $218,025 - $256,500 USD per year. Pay Range (CAD): $217,800 CAD per year. Full time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits including medical, dental, and vision. The cash compensation shown is a target range and may vary by location and role.
