The Role: Backend Engineer

We are actively seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to join our growing engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of scalable and highly reliable backend services. These services power our comprehensive insurance products and are critical to our mission of providing a safety net to a global population.

Your Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement robust new features for our platform, primarily utilizing Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL.
• Ensure the high performance, responsiveness, and security of our application programming interfaces (APIs) and backend systems.
• Collaborate effectively with frontend engineers, product managers, and UI/UX designers to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Produce clean, maintainable, and thoroughly tested code, adhering to engineering best practices and coding standards.
• Actively participate in code reviews, offering constructive feedback to peers and enhancing overall code quality.
• Engage in architectural discussions and contribute to strategic technical decisions that will shape the future of our product infrastructure.
• Proactively troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues to maintain system stability and reliability.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement and maintenance of our cloud infrastructure, predominantly on AWS.

Your Skills & Experience

• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in backend software development, demonstrating a track record of delivering impactful solutions.
• Strong proficiency in Ruby and extensive hands-on experience with the Ruby on Rails framework.
• Solid experience with relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL, and a good understanding of database design principles.
• Practical experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS (Amazon Web Services), including services like EC2, S3, RDS, etc.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a strong analytical mindset.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, essential for a distributed team environment.
• Ability to work autonomously, take ownership of projects, and thrive in a fast-paced, global remote setting.
