Site Reliability Engineering Manager at Parity
Job Description
About Us
Parity is a leading core blockchain infrastructure company, responsible for building and pioneering advanced technologies in the blockchain sector. Our organization was founded by Dr. Gavin Wood, who is a co-founder and former CTO of Ethereum, the primary engineer behind the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), the creator of the Solidity programming language, and the main author of the Ethereum Yellowpaper.
People in Our Collective Are
- Highly motivated to contribute to Parityβs mission and be part of something bigger.
- Excited to work on projects that are groundbreaking and complex.
- Autonomous workers that self-initiate, but also collaborate well with others.
- Taking maximum accountability and having minimum ego at work.
- Comfortable with chaos and adapting to the ever-changing Web3 space.
- Continuously educating themselves about Parity and the wider ecosystem.
About the Team
The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team is crucial for the infrastructure supporting the Polkadot platform and its underlying technology. This includes test and production network environments, deployment pipelines, observability, and the systems that developers, node operators, and end-user applications across the ecosystem depend on. The team's scope covers the full stack, from runtime and parachain development environments to infrastructure supporting live applications and events. We manage environments at various stability tiers, ranging from dynamic test networks with daily automated updates to production networks requiring 24/7 on call coverage. As a small team, this role offers broad responsibilities and impact.
The Role
We are seeking an engineering manager to lead a team of seasoned SRE engineers and elevate the standards of reliability within a blockchain infrastructure context. The team is technically proficient and requires a leader who can define engineering direction, foster an environment for high quality work, and apply rigorous thinking to reliability as a discipline, including Service Level Objectives (SLOs), error budgets, and blameless postmortems.
What We're Looking For
- Systems thinking: You possess a deep understanding of distributed systems and large scale infrastructure. While you do not need to be the most senior engineer technically, you must command credibility among highly skilled individuals.
- Reliability: You have experience working in or leading a team that prioritizes SRE principles. You understand the true purpose of error budgets, how to identify miscalibrated SLOs, and how to conduct postmortems that lead to genuine improvements.
- Automation: You are uncomfortable with skilled engineers spending time on tasks that could be automated. You have a track record of building teams that automate repetitive work rather than simply absorbing it.
- People development: You have a proven history of fostering the growth of engineers under your leadership, ideally with some progressing to more significant roles.
- Comfort with unusual territory: Blockchain infrastructure presents unique characteristics that do not always align with standard cloud operations. Prior Web3 experience is not required, but you should be eager to navigate this evolving space.
