Job Description

About Alpaca

Alpaca is a US-headquartered, global leader in agent-first brokerage infrastructure for stocks, ETFs, options, crypto, fixed income, 24/5 trading, and more. As a licensed financial services company, we serve hundreds of financial institutions across 40 countries with our institutional-grade APIs, including broker-dealers, investment advisors, wealth managers, hedge funds, and crypto exchanges, totaling over 10 million brokerage accounts.

We are a dynamic team of 400+ globally distributed members who thrive working from favorite locations around the world, spanning the USA, Canada, Japan, Hungary, Nigeria, Brazil, the UK, and beyond. We are committed to open-source contributions and fostering a vibrant community, continuously enhancing our award-winning, developer-friendly API and robust infrastructure.

The Role

We are searching for a passionate Senior Technical Product Manager to build Alpaca's internal infrastructure and developer platform as a product. You will own the product definition and platform maturity strategy, managing the intake, backlog, and multi-quarter roadmap for Platform & Infrastructure. Your primary goal is to lay the rails that enable DevOps, Platform, and Infrastructure teams, and our customers, to know what to prioritize next. You will partner directly with the VP of Engineering.

Alpaca is building infrastructure for programmable finance at global scale, which includes supporting new countries, global markets, and products requiring centralization or regional deployability. This role ensures there is a dedicated product owner for platform maturity, CI/CD, cost efficiency, and infrastructure dependencies that engineering teams might discover too late.

Key Responsibilities - Things You Get To Do

  • Own infrastructure as a product, defining and evolving a platform maturity model in an open manner.
  • Serve as the Product Owner for Foundational Infrastructure within the TPM team, focusing on efficiency, cost attribution, and KPIs demonstrating platform usability via full CI/CD delivery and adoption.
  • Build the rails for monthly delivery, ensuring teams allocate capacity for on-call, support, and upgrades by focusing on discovery and delivery.
  • Keep the central backlog and intake organized, surfacing platform and infrastructure dependencies before they cause surprises in other roadmaps.
  • Drive platform maturity towards eliminating maintenance windows, starting with coordinating maintenance windows, runbooks, and market-hours constraints, with the ultimate goal of 24/7 deployability across open and closed global markets.
  • Make cost a first-class product surface. Collaborate with infrastructure engineering and Finance on attribution, chargeback, and efficiency, requiring technical judgment regarding resource costs (nodes, databases, pipelines).
  • Raise CI/CD and developer-platform adoption by partnering with DevOps App (ArgoCD, service mesh, API gateway) and Platform (AuthX, event streaming, DevEx) to maximize the use of golden paths over documentation.
  • Make infrastructure portable for global scale, determining which components must remain centralized for all of Alpaca versus those packageable for new market expansions.

Who You Are (Must-Haves)

  • Seven or more years of experience as a Technical Product Manager, Product Manager, or equivalent, with significant ownership over infrastructure, platform, or developer experience.
  • Proven experience owning a multi-team backlog, intake, and roadmap, including running effective planning cadences.
  • Technically fluent enough to collaborate with senior or staff engineers on compute infrastructure, deployment pipelines (CI/CD), data stores, networking, and cost drivers. You must know when a technical proposal is superficial.
  • Ability to drive results independently without a direct reporting line, having successfully influenced platform adoption across multiple teams.
  • Proficiency in writing and operating with clear scope, accurately defining what the role does and does not cover.
  • Experience in a market-hours-sensitive or regulated production environment, where deployment windows, change risk, and customer trust are critical constraints.
  • A mindset that uses AI and automation to remove process toil rather than simply adding more tooling.

Who You Might Be (Nice-to-Haves)

  • Experience in standing up a platform-maturity model, paved-path program, or an internal developer platform.
  • Track record of eliminating or drastically reducing maintenance windows or change-freeze culture in a production organization.
  • Experience with multi-region or multi-entity infrastructure, specifically packaging a platform for rapid deployment in new regions or booking centers without heroic effort.
  • Familiarity with Capital markets, brokerage, or other FinTech infrastructure.

What We Offer (Benefits & Perks)

  • Competitive Salary & Stock Options
  • Health Benefits
  • New Hire Home-Office Setup: One-time USD $500
  • Monthly Stipend: USD $150 per month via a Brex Card
