Design the Future of the Creator Experience in VRChat

Join the VRChat team! We are building the future of immersive, user-generated worlds, where anyone, anywhere, can connect, play, explore, and express themselves. We are looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our Creators team and lead the evolution of how content, starting with props, is created, managed, and brought to life in VRChat. This is a high-impact role focused on shaping interaction systems and UI across desktop, VR, and mobile platforms. This role specifically centers on how players experience and interact with objects in the world, from companions to campfires and beyond. While the primary focus is on Content and Props, your influence will gradually extend across the broader creator toolkit. If you are energized by designing for makers, translating technical complexity into clear, approachable UX, and empowering a global community of artists and developers, this role is for you.

What You Will Do

• Lead end-to-end design for core props workflows. Define player-facing interactions for new content types, such as companions, environmental objects, and interactive items.
• Define interaction models, affordances, and behavioral systems that make props intuitive and engaging in immersive social contexts.
• Explore and establish new UX patterns for spatial and presence-based interaction, including how players discover, use, and share props in-world.
• Translate complex technical concepts into approachable user experiences through thoughtful flows, clear visual hierarchy, and user-friendly microcopy.
• Partner closely with engineers to ensure interactions feel responsive, performant, and grounded in technical reality.
• Collaborate with product and design leadership to influence the long-term direction of content interaction systems.
• Conduct lightweight usability testing (concept checks, prototype tests) to validate designs early, identify friction points, and iterate quickly.
• Utilize prototyping and in-world testing to validate interaction concepts and refine usability in real contexts.

Who You Are

• You have 5 to 8 or more years of product design experience, with a strong focus on interaction design, systems design, or immersive environments.
• You possess experience designing interactive systems, game mechanics, or spatial interfaces.
• You are comfortable navigating ambiguity and can define structure where none currently exists.
• You can simplify complexity without sacrificing capability or clarity for users.
• You are comfortable working in Figma and collaborating effectively with engineering to bring your designs to life.
• You think in terms of flows and systems, understanding how tools integrate into broader user lifecycles and complete product ecosystems.
• You are familiar with Unity, our SDKs, Blender, or other development tools.
• You are a proactive collaborator, demonstrating excellent listening skills, providing clear feedback, and being energized by close teamwork.
• You are passionate about empowering users and care deeply about how people connect, play, and express themselves through shared experiences within VRChat.

Bonus Points

• Understanding of trust, safety, or moderation systems that support healthy online interactions.
• Familiarity with social VR, presence-based user experience (UX), or designing for avatar-based expression.
• Experience working on cross-platform design (desktop, mobile, VR headsets).
• Passion for online communities, emergent play, social behavior, or the sociology of digital spaces.
