Staff Software Engineer, Core AI Infrastructure at Coinbase

Coinbase operates as a remote-first organization, although we require quarterly in-person collaboration sessions called "surges." This role falls under the high-performing IT Operations team (ESTO), where you will function as a Senior Software Engineer focusing on AI transformation.

What You Will Be Doing

• Owning the end-to-end delivery of AI products by constructing production-ready distributed systems, including serving infrastructure, data pipelines, and deployment orchestration across the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Driving platform adoption by designing clean APIs, abstractions, and developer-facing tools that allow product teams to integrate AI features without needing custom infrastructure requests.
• Partnering with engineering and product leadership across Platform and other product groups to align infrastructure requirements, resolve technical dependencies between teams, and define shared platform contracts.
• Shaping engineering standards and technical culture by establishing architectural patterns, mentoring engineers, and elevating the standards for code quality, observability, and operational excellence.
• Building full-stack applications that support internal AI products and infrastructure using Go or Python.

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum of 8 years of experience automating and supporting cloud infrastructure, specifically within AWS, and familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or Salt.
• Demonstrated experience in deploying, managing, and diagnosing issues with containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes in live production environments.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Bash, Ruby, or Go) and experience with Git based Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
• A platform-builder mentality, evidenced by a proven track record of creating reusable infrastructure, APIs, and abstractions adopted by multiple teams within an engineering organization.
• Demonstrated ability to use generative AI responsibly, ensuring human oversight is maintained to deliver business ready results and drive quantifiable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Transparency: Base salary is location dependent. The annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus) is $218,025 to $256,500 USD.
