Software Development Engineer, Core Experiences (UX/UI) at Airbnb

About the Role

We are looking for a passionate and talented Software Development Engineer to join our Core Experiences team. As an SDE, you will be instrumental in building and enhancing the user-facing parts of our platform, focusing specifically on the user experience and interface. You will work on critical path features that directly impact how millions of users interact with Airbnb, requiring a deep commitment to clean code, performance, and design integrity.

This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of robust backend systems and pixel perfect frontend implementation, ensuring our platform is not only functional but delightful to use.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable and performant user interfaces using modern web technologies.
• Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers and Product Managers to translate complex design mockups into functional, beautiful code.
• Implement complex features for the Core Experiences, focusing on accessibility, responsiveness, and cross-browser compatibility.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical planning sessions to ensure best engineering practices are followed across the team.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems to improve reliability and overall user satisfaction.

What We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of professional software development experience, preferably in a high scale web environment.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript and modern frontend frameworks (React experience is a plus).
• Solid understanding of software development principles, including component-based architecture and state management.
• Experience working with RESTful APIs and consuming services from a complex microservices architecture.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with TypeScript, a desirable skill for enhancing code maintainability.
• Familiarity with UI/UX design principles and ability to implement intricate visual designs accurately.
• Prior experience working in an Agile development environment.
