About the Role

We are seeking a senior backend engineer who excels in designing and building scalable, reliable systems within complex environments. In this role, you will take full ownership of backend services, APIs, and integrations, ensuring they are robust, easily maintainable, and directly aligned with critical business needs. You should bring strong hands-on expertise with Node.js and Python, and be comfortable navigating distributed systems and cloud environments. Your approach to problem-solving should be solution-oriented, effectively balancing technical excellence with practical and timely delivery. Furthermore, you will have demonstrated experience implementing AI-driven solutions in real-world scenarios. Whether it involves integrating Large Language Models (LLMs), developing AI-powered features, or working with data-driven models, you understand how to leverage artificial intelligence to enhance product capabilities and resolve significant challenges.

Competencies You Bring to Applaudo

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 5+ years of extensive experience in software development with a primary focus on backend systems, specifically using Node.js and Python.
• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js, including frameworks like NestJS or similar.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python, including frameworks like FastAPI or similar.
• Proven track record in designing and building RESTful APIs and comprehensive backend services.
• Direct experience working with cloud environments, with a preference for Azure, beyond just exposure.
• Experience working with distributed systems, microservices architectures, or modular system designs.
• Solid understanding of asynchronous processing and backend data flow management.
• Experience in debugging, troubleshooting, and optimizing performance in production-like environments.
• Solid understanding of backend security principles, authentication, and SSL protocols.
• Experience working with complex integrations and intricate business logic.
• Familiarity with robust testing practices, version control systems (Git), and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with a high attention to detail.
• Ability to clearly articulate technical decisions and explain trade-offs effectively.
• A strong sense of ownership and accountability for the solutions delivered.
• Working experience with frontend technologies such as React or Next.js.
• Hands-on experience in implementing AI-based solutions within real projects, including LLM integrations, AI-powered features, or data-driven models.
• Advanced English proficiency is required, as you will directly collaborate with US-based clients.

• Implement and maintain robust business logic that aligns with complex system requirements.
• Seamlessly integrate backend services with both internal and external systems.
• Work extensively with Azure cloud services for deployments, integrations, and various backend solutions.
• Proactively identify and resolve performance, scalability, and reliability issues within the system.
• Apply best practices in authentication, authorization, and comprehensive backend security.
• Collaborate effectively with frontend engineers to ensure seamless system integration and functionality.
• Actively participate in technical discussions, proposing innovative solutions and improvements to the system.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across various development and production environments.
• Contribute significantly to the continuous improvement of backend architecture and development practices.
• Design and implement AI-driven features or integrations as integral components of backend solutions, where applicable.
