Trust and Safety Manager, Policy and Risk Insights at Kindred
Job Description
About Kindred
Kindred is a members-only home swapping platform that makes it possible to live a travel-rich lifestyle through the power of community. By exchanging primary residences with trusted peers, renters and owners can match with Kindred spirits and explore new destinations without breaking the bank. Kindred is redefining the third option for travel accommodation, alongside short term rentals and hotels.
Since launching in 2022, Kindred has grown into a global community of 300,000 members across more than 150 cities, establishing home swapping as a radically more affordable, responsible, and connected way to travel. Kindred has raised over $150M in capital from leading Silicon Valley investors, including Index Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, New Enterprise Associates, Bessemer Venture Partners, Caffeinated Capital, Elad Gil, and founders of companies such as Opendoor, Figma, and ClassPass.
Kindred's co-founders are proven leaders from the early team at Opendoor (a $15B+ exit) who have each built and scaled products that today generate over $1B in combined annual revenue. Kindred is looking for the world's top builders, executors, and believers to help make travel more meaningful.
About the Role
Kindred is seeking an analytically strong Trust and Safety professional to join an established Trust and Safety team and deepen how the company understands, anticipates, and governs risk across its marketplace. You will turn signals into insight and insight into policy: spotting trends before they become incidents, diagnosing root causes, and making sure what the team learns shows up in policies, enforcement standards, and product decisions.
This role sits at the intersection of analysis and governance. Your time will be split between two core areas: owning the policies, standards, and quality systems that keep enforcement consistent, and building the risk intelligence that tells the team where those policies need to go next. You will also partner closely on marketplace integrity work, including fraud and abuse.
Responsibilities
Policy and Governance
- Own Trust and Safety and integrity policies, including creation, iteration, versioning, and deprecation
- Develop policy for emerging risks, informed by incident trends, regulatory developments, and industry practice
- Define enforcement standards and decision frameworks that operations teams can apply consistently and confidently
- Help shape and, over time, own the appeals framework as it takes form, using appeal outcomes as a signal of policy clarity and enforcement accuracy
- Ensure policies are internally consistent, aligned with Terms of Service, and regularly reviewed against real world incidents
- Maintain a clear policy change log and governance process, documenting what changed, why, and how decisions were made
- Co-own QA and calibration processes with Operations Enablement, and partner with them to ensure policy changes translate into training, workflows, and tooling
Risk Intelligence and Insights
- Own trend analysis and regular risk reporting across incidents, reports, enforcement actions, and appeals, surfacing what is changing, why, and what to do about it
- Monitor and develop member and vendor risk signals, and partner with cross functional teams to define, validate, and refine them over time
- Identify emerging harms early and size their potential impact before they scale
- Lead root cause analysis on significant incidents and recurring issues, closing the loop from finding to system change
- Deliver clear, data backed recommendations to Product, Policy, and Operations, and track whether they are adopted and effective
- Translate complex risk findings into crisp narratives for leadership
Marketplace Integrity
- Contribute to fraud and abuse detection through pattern and link analysis
- Investigate referral and promo abuse and suspicious booking behavior
- Partner with Product and Policy on mitigations that address root causes, not just individual cases
What We're Looking For
Required Experience
- 8+ years of experience in Trust and Safety, Risk, Integrity, Fraud, or Platform Governance
- A track record of risk or trend analysis that changed product, policy, or operational decisions
- Comfort working directly with data to find trends and build reporting (SQL or similar strongly preferred)
- Experience owning or evolving Trust and Safety policies, enforcement standards, appeals, or QA and audit programs in a live enforcement environment
- Experience with fraud, abuse, or platform misuse
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to turn complex analysis into clear recommendations for executives
- High judgment, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to make principled tradeoffs
Preferred Experience
- Experience in a marketplace, booking, or two sided platform business
- Hands on experience with link analysis, network analysis, or fraud detection tooling
- Experience building or co-owning QA or calibration programs for enforcement teams
- Exposure to Trust and Safety regulatory environments
Why This Role Matters
Trust and Safety is not a compliance checkbox at Kindred. It is foundational to the long term health of the marketplace and the trust of everyone who uses it. You will build on a solid foundation and help move risk understanding from reactive to anticipatory, making sure what the team learns from every signal, incident, and appeal makes the platform safer. You will have executive support, meaningful scope, and a direct line to the decisions that shape how the company grows.
Benefits
- Competitive cash compensation and equity
- Comprehensive health benefits
- Flexible time off, plus 12 paid holidays per year
- 21 credits per year to stay in Kindred homes
- $4,000 annual travel stipend to help offset travel related costs
- Remote first and remote flexible work environment, with opportunities to work from anywhere and gather in person, including at Kindred HQ in San Francisco
- Regular team and company offsites to connect, collaborate, and build together
- A vibrant, inclusive, and highly skilled team that ferociously protects team chemistry
- A culture of high standards, feedback, and continual growth
