Job Description

About Atticus

At Atticus, we address a critical issue: 16 million Americans face a crisis requiring urgent assistance from our legal or government systems, yet most never receive it. Our mission is to eliminate barriers for sick or injured Americans to access life-changing aid. Over the last six years, we have become a leading platform connecting individuals with disabilities to government benefits, and we assist accident and violence victims in obtaining insurance compensation. We have successfully helped hundreds of thousands of people access over $10 billion in aid and have garnered over 20,000 five-star reviews. We have secured over $100 million in funding from top venture capital firms such as Forerunner, Google Ventures, and True Ventures, and we are dedicated to building a category defining business that supports Americans in need.

The Role

As we scale towards our goal of helping over 250,000 Americans access vital benefits in the next two years, the Atticus People team is instrumental in making this possible. We are seeking a People Operations leader to enhance the operational foundation of our People function. This includes managing benefits, systems, payroll, and multi-state compliance through our PEO, people policy, and performance and merit cycles. You will oversee vendor management and strategic decisions aimed at elevating our employee experience. Key responsibilities involve evaluating when and how to transition from our current PEO, determining the future of our HRIS, and evolving our policies and benefits. As we grow, you will define automation strategies and set the standard for operational excellence. You will report to Amy Yu, our Head of People, and join a small, highly engaged team dedicated to our mission.

Qualifications

  • 7 or more years of experience owning significant People Operations pieces within a venture-backed Series C-D+ tech company, covering benefits, systems, performance, compliance, and policy.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle delicate situations, comfortable presenting benefits analysis as well as navigating tough leave conversations with tact and clarity.
  • Proven experience managing HRIS systems end-to-end, including the successful implementation of new systems and the effective management of people vendors and partners.
  • Experience partnering with senior leadership on performance and merit cycles and the ability to lead cross-functional groups that include more senior personnel.
  • Operate with high ownership and low ego, capable of both executing tasks and directing them.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments, embracing a philosophy of low process and high judgment when clear answers are not available.

Salary and Benefits

This role offers a unique chance to join a fast-growing Series C startup that operates as a B-corp social enterprise. Our small team structure allows for a significant impact on our operational model and employee experience. We provide competitive compensation, including equity, and generous benefits:

  • Medical and dental insurance covering 100% of employee and family premiums.
  • 15 vacation days plus approximately 20 paid holidays annually (which includes two weeks at year end).
  • Free membership to OneMedical.
  • A $600 per year internet stipend.
  • A $1,000 annually reimbursable stipend for education and training outside of work.
  • Up to $1,200 per year for student loan repayment assistance.
  • 401(k) options alongside optional HSA/FSA.
  • A supportive culture among humble, thoughtful, smart, and fun colleagues.

The anticipated base salary range for this position is between $130,000 and $185,000, supplemented by equity and other benefits. The final offer will be contingent upon candidate experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal team equity.

Location

This position is fully remote, and we are committed to employee flexibility. While the role is remote, travel to Los Angeles (paid by the company) may be necessary periodically, typically quarterly, for meetings and offsites. We prioritize strong culture and believe some in person interaction is valuable, which is why we invest in retreats and gather events.
