About the Role
This is a highly visible and customer-facing position within GitLab's Professional Services organization, which is part of the broader Customer Success team. You will collaborate with Professional Services Engineers, Project Managers, Engagement Managers, Technical Architects, Professional Services Operations, and the Sales Organization. A Program Manager at GitLab is responsible for overseeing and managing customer programs and a portfolio of interconnected projects. Your primary objective will be to ensure the successful delivery of client projects, including long-term strategic initiatives, while providing strategic guidance to both your team and the customer.
The Professional Services Program Manager reports directly to the Regional Delivery Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the successful delivery of multi-workstream professional services engagements for GitLab's largest and most strategic customers.
- Cultivate robust relationships with key customer stakeholders, including executive leaders, counterpart program/project managers, and engineering, development, and security teams.
- Develop a comprehensive delivery methodology that incorporates agile and project management best practices. Communicate this methodology effectively to key customer stakeholders and lead its execution by integrating customer and GitLab team members.
- Build and maintain continuous communication regarding the Program Roadmap, dependencies, and deliverables.
- Manage stakeholder expectations to secure approval for all project milestones.
- Define the overall program strategy, encompassing:
- Program justification and anticipated benefits.
- Clearly defined in-scope and out-of-scope projects.
- Detailed timelines and schedules.
- Resource allocation (e.g., number of teams, Project Managers, Professional Services Engineers, Technical Architects).
- Identification of all relevant stakeholders.
- Creation of a program-level RACI (Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, Informed) chart.
- Definition of comprehensive Program Success Criteria.
- Development of a Program Level Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for all constituent projects.
- Establishment of clear communication plans between projects and stakeholders.
- Definition of the Program Escalation Path.
- Work closely with Engagement Managers to define workstreams when scoping larger customer programs, including reviewing proposals or Statements of Work prior to signature.
- Assist Regional Delivery Managers in creating and executing quarterly Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) aimed at optimizing all Project Manager processes.
Requirements
- Proficiency in forecasting and reporting key metrics.
- Demonstrated ability to lead Project Management Program Level meetings, including but not limited to, the Weekly PM meeting.
- Capability to formulate, organize, monitor, and effectively manage inter-connected projects.
- Proven ability to manage budgets and timelines for long-term projects.
- Skill in developing long-term plans in collaboration with customers.
- Ability to partner with Engagement Managers and Architects to develop long-term strategies supporting customer adoption and transformation.
- Must obtain GitLab Project Management Certification within two months of starting the role.
