About the Role

We are actively seeking an Engineering Manager for our BootStack team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a technologist passionate about Linux and Cloud technologies to build a thriving career with Canonical. The BootStack team is responsible for designing, building, and operating modern distributed systems on private infrastructure for our customers. This encompasses a broad range of technologies, from Kubernetes to OpenStack and everything in between, offering a fast-paced engineering environment with cutting-edge technology.

As a Cloud Engineering Manager for the BootStack team, you will manage engineers who oversee the day-to-day Managed Service of customer environments. Your responsibilities will include customer service management, managed services operations, and continuous product improvement engineering. Close collaboration with customers, product engineering, and operations teams is vital for success in this globally remote role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a growing engineering team to optimize both the quality and velocity of development and operations.
  • Identify and meticulously measure team health indicators.
  • Implement disciplined engineering and operations processes.
  • Act as the representative for the BootStack team to stakeholders, customers, and external teams.
  • Ensure the team maintains proper focus on priorities, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Work to achieve service level agreements (SLAs) with customer deployments worldwide.
  • Consistently deliver high-quality managed services in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's (or equivalent) education in a technology related field.
  • A proven professional track record in either software delivery using Python, Go, C, C++, Java, or similar languages, and/or extensive experience managing operations teams.
  • Demonstrated experience with OpenStack.
  • Strong commitment to robust testing methodologies and maintaining high code quality.
  • Experience with Linux system administration; experience with Ubuntu or Debian is a significant advantage.
  • Excellent communication and cooperation skills.
  • Proficiency with agile software development methodologies.
  • Experience working in and effectively managing distributed teams.
  • Strong technical aptitude for understanding complex distributed systems.
  • Extensive experience with cloud topologies and technologies.
  • Ability to travel for team and company events, and customer meetings, typically 20% or less.
