Engineering Manager for Supabase Spark Platform at Supabase

Remote 🌍 Work from Anywhere Full time Lead Posted  Apply before Dec 20, 2026

Job Description

About Supabase

Supabase is the Postgres development platform, built by developers for developers. We provide a complete backend solution including Database, Auth, Storage, Edge Functions, Realtime, and Vector Search. All services are deeply integrated and designed for growth.

About the Role

We are seeking Engineering Managers to lead the engineering efforts for Supabase Spark. Supabase Spark is an initiative focused on building the next frontier of agentic databases, supporting billions of databases, with millions of databases created daily. While managers are not expected to contribute code directly, participation in design discussions and setting the standard for engineering quality and best practices is expected.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Team & People

  • Building a healthy, high-trust team culture within a remote-first, globally distributed environment.
  • Conducting 1:1s, managing performance, overseeing career development, and onboarding for direct reports.
  • Handling people administration (such as leave and time off) for your team.

Hiring

  • Owning the team's hiring plan and acting as the Hiring Manager.
  • Serving as the first round interviewer for all roles on the team.
  • Partnering with Talent Acquisition to source, interview, and successfully close top candidates.
  • Contributing to headcount planning, organizational design, and the evolution of engineering leadership at Supabase.

Delivery & Roadmap

  • Owning the team's roadmap and project management using Linear, ensuring accountability and clear milestones.
  • Managing workflow intake and Slack triage, which are the team's main inboxes for cross-team requests. You will determine routing, prioritization, or deferral.
  • Owning the team's weekly updates to keep stakeholders aligned without causing overhead.
  • Organizing work against support tickets and maintaining the team's Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
  • Proactively surfacing risks, dependencies, and trade-offs to leadership in a clear manner.

Incident Commander

  • Training to serve as an Incident Commander.
  • Driving coordination, resolution, and subsequent post-incident follow-up.
  • Leading blameless post-incident reviews.

You Might Be a Good Fit If You

  • Possess 5 or more years of engineering experience, with sufficient depth to maintain credibility with engineers building complex systems.
  • Have at least 3 years of experience managing remote engineering teams.
  • Have managed engineering teams at a cloud, SaaS, or developer tools company.
  • Have experience with developer tools or databases, specifically including familiarity with both SQLite and Postgres ecosystems.
  • Demonstrate strong technical credibility in backend and database systems, including APIs, authentication, and Postgres access control (roles, grants, Row Level Security - RLS, etc.).
  • Have led a team that successfully shipped a developer facing API or platform product from its early stages to full production.
  • Have managed remote, globally distributed teams that operate asynchronously across various time zones.
  • Are technically capable enough to be credible with strong engineers, but maintain a genuine passion for people management. This is the work you want to be doing, not a role you are settling for.
  • Are dedicated to building psychological safety and a feedback culture: providing feedback often and in the moment, soliciting feedback in return, and creating an environment where the team feels safe to do the same.
  • Operate as a multiplier. Your focus should be on helping individuals achieve more than they could alone, rather than striving to be the most technically authoritative voice in the room.
  • Coach rather than direct. Your role is to remove blockers, connect people with necessary context and resources, and trust your engineers to own the execution of the work.
  • Have a verifiable track record in performance management, including the ability to discuss specific instances of difficult conversations and how you handled them.
  • Are comfortable operating in ambiguity and possess the capability to build structure when it is not yet present.
  • Communicate clearly and write well. You default to asynchronous communication and written documentation, proactively setting context and surfacing risks early.
  • Are collaborative, low ego, and adaptable. You thrive working with high autonomy, senior individual contributors who possess strong technical opinions and do not need to be the smartest person in the room.
  • Are comfortable with aggressive scoping and evaluation driven development.

What We Offer

  • Annual Off-Sites: Once per year, the entire company gathers in a new city for a week dedicated to connection, collaboration, and enjoyment. This is a highlight of our year.
  • Flexible Work: We operate asynchronously and trust you to manage your time effectively. You determine what needs to be accomplished and when.
  • Professional Development: Every team member receives an annual education allowance to invest in learning, which can cover courses, books, conferences, or anything else supporting your growth.

About the Team

Supabase was established as a remote and open-source first organization. We believe our globally distributed team is our primary advantage in building tools that developers love.

  • Operating in 60+ countries
  • Speaking over 20 languages
  • Over $1B raised (including our $500M Series F)
